Frequently Asked Questions

Teak is usually the best wood for a garden chair. As a hardwood, teak is very long lasting and will withstand most weather conditions. If your teak garden chair has been treated, it may last even longer. Treating a teak garden chair every two to three years will keep it looking as good as new. Rust-free aluminium is also a great choice for a garden chair as, again, it requires little maintenance to continue looking good. Rattan weave is ideal for larger chairs, like sofas, as it is weather and UV resistant and can last as long as 10 years.
Rust-free aluminium is a great choice for a garden chair as it requires little maintenance to continue looking good and will not rust. Rattan weave is ideal for larger chairs, like sofas, as it is weather and UV resistant and can last as long as 10 years. Hardwoods like timber or acacia make good garden dining chairs as they are incredibly hard wearing and look good whether treated or left to fade to a silvery grey.
You could put your garden chair on the lawn for a short space of time, but leaving it there for a prolonged period is not a great idea. As well as ruining your grass, the moisture from the lawn can seep up into the chair legs and affect the integrity of them and reduce their overall life span.
If space is limited but you still want enough chairs for visitors, stacking chairs are ideal. They can easily be stacked on top of one another and stored away when you are using the garden for something else. Folding chairs are also a good choice for small spaces as they can easily be folded up and put away when not in use.

Hayes Garden Chairs Buying Guide

Purchasing a garden chair, or even a few garden chairs, makes a lot of sense. You might have the perfect space for a cosy rocking chair or comfy recliner, or maybe you entertain a lot and need some extra dining chairs. Cocoon chairs and egg chairs add a sumptuous feel to gardens or patios and can even be used in bedrooms. If you’re looking for a lounge set, you can shop modular pieces to create the perfect sized sofa for your garden.

All of our garden chairs are sourced from premium suppliers and offer long lasting quality and value. Materials like sustainably sourced teak, rust-free aluminium and powder coated tubular steel are great choices for your garden chair, as they can withstand the outdoors and need little to no maintenance. We offer a 12 month warranty as standard on all of our outdoor chairs, with some styles being guaranteed for up to two years.

Quality garden chairs, when looked after, can last up to 15 years. So, it’s important you choose your chair wisely. Slender, clean aluminium chairs look great on a modern urban patio, while ornate & traditional wooden chairs blend perfectly with quintessential English gardens. Single chairs with matching footstools can work well in smaller spaces or balconies as do cocoon or egg chairs which offer an on-trend look. If buying dining chairs, consider how many you may need in the future, not just now, and maybe buy a few extra for entertaining.

One of the biggest concerns when buying garden chairs may be how much maintenance they require. Timber chairs can be treated with a preservative or left to weather and fade naturally; the choice is yours. Metal garden chairs only need a quick wash every so often, as is the case with rattan garden furniture. Cushions will need to be stored away to prevent damp and mould forming, and whilst all of our furniture is fine to be left outside, we do advise purchasing a cover to help prolong the life of your garden chairs so you can enjoy them for many years.
