Pergola

Pergolas give you more time in your garden and extend your living space. They provide excellent shade from the sun whilst still allowing you to enjoy the warm weather and can be a great cover for over barbecues, dining tables or outdoor sofas. You can add a retractable cover or curtain sides to your pergola for extra weather protection or to give you more privacy. They can also be decorated with lights and flowers as a beautiful feature in your garden.

Pergolas do not come ready assembled and will require building. They are fairly straightforward to build and, if you have some basic to moderate DIY skills, you should be able to build it by yourself. You’ll need help getting the posts up and the right tools to secure everything in place but if you follow the instructions carefully, there is no reason why you couldn’t build your own pergola.

Many pergolas come with retractable roofs so that you can choose the level of shade you want. These roofs are made from weather resistant materials that stop water coming through. They are not designed for heavy showers though. Some pergolas have solid roofs that are permanently in place. These obviously provide even more shelter and give you even more space to enjoy.

Wooden pergolas are usually pressure treated to stop mould or rot. They are very solid and look best in traditional spaces. Aluminium pergolas are particularly good because the powder coating makes them resistant to rust, so they’ll last a very long time. You can also get aluminium pergolas in a selection of colours including white and dark grey. Wooden pergolas can still look great in city gardens or modern spaces and aluminium pergolas can add a contemporary feel to modern stone patios.
