You might have the perfect space for a cosy rocking chair or comfy recliner, or maybe you entertain a lot and need some extra dining chairs. Cocoon chairs and egg chairs add a sumptuous feel to gardens or patios and can even be used in bedrooms. What is the best wood for a garden chair?

Teak is usually the best wood for a garden chair. As a hardwood, teak is very long lasting and will withstand most weather conditions. If your teak garden chair has been treated, it may last even longer. Treating a teak garden chair every two to three years will keep it looking as good as new. Rust-free aluminium is also a great choice for a garden chair as, again, it requires little maintenance to continue looking good. Rattan weave is ideal for larger chairs, like sofas, as it is weather and UV resistant and can last as long as 10 years.

You could put your garden chair on the lawn for a short space of time, but leaving it there for a prolonged period is not a great idea. As well as ruining your grass, the moisture from the lawn can seep up into the chair legs and affect the integrity of them and reduce their overall life span.

Which chairs are best for small gardens?

If space is limited but you still want enough chairs for visitors, stacking chairs are ideal. They can easily be stacked on top of one another and stored away when you are using the garden for something else. Folding chairs are also a good choice for small spaces as they can easily be folded up and put away when not in use.
