About Hayes Garden World

Hayes Garden World has been trading off the same site on Lake Road in Ambleside in the glorious English Lake District UNESCO World Heritage Site for over 200 years. Expanding over the years from a nursery just selling plants to the huge multifaceted garden-centric store of today. The most notable extensions have been the Crystal Palace, which now houses the Houseplant Department, in the mid-1980s and the new Hanger extension at the north end of the building in the early 2010s, which is now home to the Garden Furniture Department in spring and autumn and the stunning Christmas Department in autumn and winter.

The Outdoor Plant area has expanded considerably in the last 20 years to encompass a compost and greenhouse area, outdoor garden containers and ornaments, timber products and the hugely popular children’s attractions, Fairy World, which runs over the summer, and Santa’s Grotto.

Also newly located to the back of the nursery is The Barbecue Shop, one of the largest BBQ centres in the north of England. Open all the year round, it sells everything from a fully fitted outdoor kitchen containing a grill, sink, fridge, prep areas and masses of storage to a simple tub of Angus & Oink BBQ rub. Keep an eye on our Events page as we regularly run BBQ classes for both newbies and experienced grillers, where we show you how to cook various world cuisines on your BBQ, and our Christmas dinner BBQ class shows you that it can be used all year round, not just for summer.

Four Seasons Terrace Cafe

Our Four Seasons Terrace Cafe has just had the first stage of a complete refurbishment completed, giving you more space and privacy. The new menus use a lot of local produce and are changed seasonally, serving a selection of main meals, lighter bites, breakfast or just coffee and scones. We have abolished the old self-service system in favour of table service so you can relax as soon as you reach the top of the stairs. Although the main restaurant does not allow dogs, they are welcome on the outside terrace with stunning views of the surrounding Lakeland Fells.
