This is not necessary if you want the timber to weather down to a soft natural patina.All our garden furniture is practically maintenance free, only requiring an hour or so in spring. Just wash down with a mild solution or warm water and washing-up liquid to remove any dirt which may have accumulated over the winter. If you are treating the timber to retain it’s original colour this will have to be done every 2 - 3 years. Chips on the metal furniture can be covered with a car spray paint or a dab of nail varnish.
