Bistro Set Buyers Guide

A bistro set is one of those invaluable sets of garden furniture which is small and light enough to move around the garden in search of the sun. A handy set on which to relax and enjoy your morning coffee, have a light lunch with a friend and the evening meal with your loved one. What’s more they are small enough to tuck away in a corner and provide additional seating for a barbecue party. The table makes an ideal prep table for all your BBQ accessories as it’s always safest to keep raw and cooked food apart; click here to read the blog giving you some hints and tips on how to stay safe when barbecuing. All our outdoor garden furniture is sourced by our experienced buyers Keith Laird and Ian Hodgett who have around 60 years experience in the garden leisure sector. All of this experience has been gained at Hayes so they have an extremely good knowledge of  our customers likes and dislikes. As one of the largest retailers of garden furniture in the UK we are able to negotiate extremely competitive prices with our suppliers which we are able pass on to our customers. We source our garden furniture from the most respected suppliers in the UK including Bramblecrest, 4Seasons Outdoor, Norfolk Leisure and Alexander Rose.

How much should I pay for my bistro set?

Garden bistro sets range from £179 for a simple wooden set to £2,000 for a stylish comfortable lounger set. The question is what do you want it for; will you want to move it around throughout the day, lie in the sun in a suntrap or just bring it out when you need extra seating for a party? Next question to consider is what type of material you like; metal, rattan weave or timber. Finally what style of garden do you have traditional English style or do you want something more contemporary and stylish?

What materials are the bistro sets made from?

The sets are all constructed from the best quality low maintenance materials on the market, giving you a set which will last for many years. The metal sets are all either aluminium or powder coated steel which require no maintenance, just a wash down in spring with with a mild soap and warm water solution. The timber sets can be either treated every couple of years to maintain their pristine looks or left untreated they will weather down to a pale silvery grey. The rattan weave sets don’t need any maintenance apart from a wash down with a mild soap and water solution in spring to remove any dirt and grit accumulated over the winter.

How much maintenance do the sets need?

Our bistro sets need very little maintenance; just a wash down in spring for the metal and rattan weave sets with a mild soap and warm water solution to remove any dust and grit accumulated over the winter. The timber sets just need a brush down if you are letting them age naturally or the appropiate timber treatment if you want them to retain their new look. If the metal furniture does become scratched or chipped just spray with a little car paint or dab with a little nail varnish.
