Beef stir fry with ginger & sesame cooked on the Weber Spirit II E-310 gas BBQ

Delicious and easy; dinner in less than 20 minutes, start to finish

This simple stir fry is incredibly quick to prepare and cook, ask your butcher to cut the steak into strips then all you have to do is grate some garlic and ginger, chop some green beans and combine a few store cupboard ingredients. Pre-heat the BBQ and the wok while you are doing the prep and cooking takes less than 5 minutes; so dinner in less than 20 minutes. Use a chimney starter to speed up the wait time if cooking on charcoal.



  • 500g (1.1lb) steak; cut into ¼” strips
  • sea salt
  • fresh ground black pepper
  • 2 tbsp cornflour
  • rapeseed oil
  • 450g (1lb) green beans; sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic; grated
  • 2” piece fresh ginger; grated
  • 60ml (2 fl oz) soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp shaoxing or rice wine vinegar
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 spring onions; chopped, for garnish
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds, for garnish

Toss the beef strips, we used fillet steak tails, in sea salt, ground black pepper and cornflour.

Pre-heat the BBQ and the cast-iron wok, we are using the Weber Spirit II E-310 gas BBQ with the GBS (Gourmet Barbecue System) grate. All the burners were lit on high but if using a charcoal BBQ spread out the charcoal in an even layer across the entire grate to give a good high grilling temperature across the whole of the barbecue.

Add oil to the wok, drizzle it around the rim to give a good even coat to the whole of the wok, once it gets hot add the beef, spread out in an even layer and cook for 2 - 3 minutes, keep stirring to prevent it sticking.

Combine the rest of the ingredients, except for the garnish, and add to the beef. Give it a good stir and leave to cook for a couple of minutes. You don’t need to temperature check the beef strips as they are incredibly quick to cook. Take it off when the beans still have a little bite.

Remove it using the Weber Premium Gloves onto a trivet.  Garnish with the onions and sesame seeds. Add some ready cooked straight to wok noodles to bulk out the beef. While you are eating the main course why not throw some pineapple onto the grill to caramelise, then just assemble a sundae for an indulgent treat.
