Eat fresh vegetables in early spring by sowing in late summer and autumn
We are sowing broad bean Aquadulce Claudia in late summer/early autumn as it stands the winter weather well and gives a crop early in spring. We are sowing in the single cells as the vegetable beds are still full of the summer crops.
You will need:
- broad beans; Aquadulce Claudia
- tray of single cells
- seed compost
- labels
- watering can with a fine rose
Fill the cells with good quality peat-free seed compost. Knock the tray on the bench to settle the compost.
Push a single bean into each cell just below the surface.
Water with a fine rose, as the seed is large watering from above won’t disturb it.
Place somewhere cool until germinated.
When the plants are about 10cm (4”) tall plant out into a gap in the bed where the summer veg has been harvested.
