FAQ

How do I store my bird feed?
Store somewhere dry and frost free in metal bins. If you have a problem with rodents a metal bin with a snug fitting lid is essential as they will chew through plastic and are smart enough to knock off a lid.
How do I avoid attracting rodents when I feed the birds?

If possible site the feeders over a concrete pad or paving slab which can easily be swept clean. Clean underneath the feeders every day taking care to avoid leaving any food around overnight. If rodents are climbing up your feeding table of feed station install a baffle to prevent them climbing the pole. Alternatively take in the feeders overnight and store in a rodent proof container, not plastic as rats can easily chew through, ideally use a metal container. Store the spare feed in a metal container with a tight lid which can't be opened by rodents, rats are smarter than you think.

Where is the best place to site my bird feeders?

Birds are very wary of being ambushed by predators so site your feeders where they have good vision all around. They also need somewhere to shelter if they are threatened by predators so a nearby thick bush where they can hide would be beneficial.

Where is the best place to site a nest box?
Site your nest box on the north side of the house or tree so it is out of the direct sun as nestlings can easily overheat if they are in direct sunlight.
