The material needs to be fairly heavyweight be showerproof and breathable and have cords or buckles to secure it to the legs of the garden bench. The fabric needs to be breathable otherwise condensation builds up on the inside of the cover which leads to the growth of moulds on the bench. If the cover is vinyl or plastic make sure it has mesh panels to ensure good airflow. Placing an upturned bucket on the seat underneath the cover will help it shed water and prevent water from pooling on the bench cover. The fabric needs to be easy to clean, especially if your garden bench is positioned underneath the flight path of birds.
