How To Repair The Broken Leg On Natural Rattan And Cane Conservatory Furniture

Repair that broken leg on your conservatory furniture easily and cheaply

Desser Riva coffee table (pictured above)

Broken legs on natural rattan and cane conservatory furniture can be repaired; however it will probably not be an exact match. You need to find a piece of wood the same diameter as the broken piece; sometimes broom handles can be almost the same size or try and find a junk shop piece of furniture with the same legs.

  • Drill a hole, 1” deep, down the centre of the broken leg and the same again down the centre of the new piece of wood; make the hole 5/8” in diameter.
  • Cut the new piece of leg longer then you think you need.
  • Put epoxy glue in each of the drilled holes and insert a 2” piece of 5/8” diameter doweling into the chair leg then push the new piece of leg onto the other end of the doweling.
  • Place a weight on the chair to maintain the pressure on the new joint until the glue has hardened.
  • Gradually cut back the new leg until the chair is level.

Stain or paint the new leg to match the rest of the chair.

If the leg has snapped you can use this method to just insert a new piece.
