Sample Menu - Wines & Beers
The perfect accompaniment to any meal. We offer a range of local beers brewed & bottled in the Lake District by Hawkshead Brewery in Staveley. We also serve wine by the glass or bottle.
White Wines
Colombard Chardonnay – this crisp Australian white wine contributes a crisp refreshing zestiness from the Colombard grape & a full & fruity flavour from the chardonnay grape. Suitable for all occasions, especially enjoyable with white meat & fish dishes. The vineyards for this delectable wine are situated in the heartland of South Eastern Australia.
Sauvigion Blanc - this fresh & crispy Chilean white wine is un-oaked & offers prominent citrus & tropical fruit flavours. Enjoy this little gem on its own or with light poultry & fish dishes. The vineyards are sited between the Andes & Coastal Mountain ranges.
Pinot Grigio – this Italian white is dry but fruity & very well balanced. The grapes are grown in the Venetian area of Northern Italy. An excellent accompaniment for soups or white meats.
Rose Wine
Pinot Grigio Rosé - as with the white option of this wine the rosé is grown using vineyards in Northern Italy. It is fruitier than the white and sweeter, making this a palatable medium rose wine. Enjoy on its own or with light foods.
Red Wines
Merlot Petit Verdot - this fruity red is grown in the heartland of South Eastern Australia. You can expect soft ripe juiciness from the Petit Verdot, making this a little more full bodied than a traditional Merlot. This wine is suitable for all occasions either on its own or with a vast array of meat & pasta dishes.
Cabernet Sauvignon – this Chilean smooth easy drinking wine is grown using vineyards situated between the Andes & Coastal Mountain ranges. This wine offers ripe berry & black bramble flavours. Exceptional when served with red meats, pastas, pizzas & char grilled meat dishes.
Locally Brewed Beers
All Hawkshead beers are brewed with the best Maris Otter malted barley and carefully selected hops from England and abroad.
Gold – a hoppy, bitter golden ale which is bursting with refreshing citrus fruit flavours. This is a thoroughly modern pale beer using some of the most flavoursome hops available. The hop character is dominated by American Cascade and English First Gold Hops.
Brodies Prime - a well-hopped dark premium beer with an unusual medley of flavours. It is rich and rounded, though at 4.9%abv, not as strong as it tastes. It has a roasted edge, like a stout but with contrasting spiciness and surprisingly pronounced fruit flavours from a mixture of English and American Hops.
Red – has a deep copper colour shifting to ruby. Immediately more malty & rich on the nose. Hints of Crème Brulee & subtle stewed fruit notes. Malty, but not over sweet. Balanced with veins of anise, cassis & toasted biscuit. Long and built on the roasted malt flavours which bring a mix of liquorice, allspice and warm cereals giving a great rich feel.
Lakeland Lager - this local lager is brewed in the style of a Pilsner, offering a yeasty, light refreshing taste. Well rounded flavouring with no sharp edges. An easy summer drink, perfect with all types of food.
