For example, it's no good feeding tomato plants which have started fruiting a high nitrogen fertiliser as this would just promote lots of leafy growth and at the fruiting stage you need to encourage the plant to produce more tomatoes so a dedicated tomato feed is essential.

First of all is to store them on a high shelf well out of the reach of children and not near anything else which could be mistaken for the chemicals. They also need to be kept dry and frost free. Keeping them out of direct sunlight will also stop the packaging from fading.
