Yes, parasol bases are essential in order to prevent damage to your parasol and property. If the wind picks up, it can lift a parasol several metres into the air, however a parasol base will ensure your parasol will be securely weighted down to the ground.   
The easiest heavy duty parasol bases to move around your garden will be the hollow plastic base on wheels. You are able to fill these up with either sand or water and then empty them if you need to move your parasol base. Bear in mind that when you are filling your plastic parasol base, if you fill it with sand, it will be harder to empty than water. 
No, all of our parasol bases are fully weatherproof and they can be left outdoors all year round. However, if your parasol base is positioned under a tree, we would recommend covering it so that it looks pristine for longer.
The weight of a parasol base is crucial to its stability and as a general rule, a base should be approximately 20-30 kg for a standard-sized parasol. However, a heavier base offers better resistance against strong winds. If the parasol fits through the centre of a table, a lighter base will suffice as the table will provide some stability.
