Pergola

Pergolas come in all shapes, sizes and materials from the traditional wood to contemporary steel, aluminium and Sunbrella fabric. They provide a stylish shady alternative to the usual parasol, the only disadvantage is they cannot be moved around the garden as easily and do take more time to assemble and take down. The wooden pergolas combine with a seat making an ideal hideaway in a sunny corner of the garden; growing sweetly scented climbers and adding some containers of scented plants to give you a secluded calming seating area. Curtain sides are available for the metal structures giving you a bit of privacy and protection from the sun when it drops a bit lower in the sky. They can be fixed to the ground and the solid roofed types can be left up almost permanently, just make sure that they are taken down in strong winds and that snow is not allowed to accumulate on the roof. If you are unsure whether to go for a pergola or a parasol just call our friendly sales team; they won’t give you the hard sell they want you to be completely happy with your purchase. Don’t forget if you live on the mainland UK (some exceptions do apply) your purchase will be delivered free if the order is over £50.

Frequently Asked Questions

We stock pergolas constructed from timber, aluminium and steel with polycarbonate roofs and Sunbrella curtain sides.
A minimum of 12 months with some of the timber models having 10 years. The warranty covers defective materials and construction not damage sustained as a result of adverse weather conditions.
No, they all require a degree of assembly, however this should be well within the capabilities of anyone who has minimum DIY skills.
The metal pergolas just require a wash down in spring with a mild solution of warm water and washing-up liquid but the timber pergolas are all pressure treated so require no maintenance. If they are sited in a cool shady spot in the garden or covered in climbers they will acquire algae and moss which needs scraping off, if left it will eventually weaken the structure so if possible site the pergola in the sun. If the pergola has a solid roof any accumulations of snow must be brushed off.

Buyers guide to pergolas

A pergola is an essential requirement if you want to enjoy your outdoor space to the full, it will not only protect you from the sun but also a light shower and be somewhere you can barbecue in comfort. Create your comfy relaxing outdoor space with a fantastic quality set of rattan weave garden furniture, a barbecue, sumptuous garden cushions, a patio heater and a metal pergola to add the finishing touch. The wooden pergolas are a classic way of adding height to your garden and providing the perfect vehicle for growing climbers. Position the pergola to create a focal point at the end of the garden and add a garden bench, some sweet scented climbers and pots of lavender to create a serene calming spot to de-stress and unwind after a trying day. They are also ideal for positioning over a path to create a division between two areas of the garden.

We not only sell wooden pergolas which are perfect for the classic English garden but also aluminium and steel with fabric sides which not only give you protection from direct sun but also when it starts to dip. The clean lines of the metal pergolas are ideal for a modern minimalist outdoor living space. They need to be secured to the ground but we always advise they they be taken down completely if storms are forecast, especially if they have a solid roof. There are models designed specifically to protect you when barbecuing which allows you to grill in all weathers; BBQs are not just for summer. All our outdoor garden furniture is sourced by our lead buyers Keith Laird and Ian Hodgett who have vast experience of buying for Hayes customers so know just what our customers are looking for when it comes to kitting out their outdoor spaces. The pergolas are sourced from the most respected manufacturers on the market, such as Zest 4 Leisure, Hartman and Kettler.

All our pergolas come with at least 12 months warranty, some models having a 10 year guarantee. This covers defective construction and materials not damage sustained as a result of leaving them up in adverse weather conditions, strong winds can occasionally buckle the metal structures. If you do encounter problems just call our Customer Services team who will be happy to help; they are not just there to sort out any problems but also to advise on the best option for you if you are struggling to decide.

The pergolas do require some assembly but this should be well within the capabilities of an average DIYer.
