Buyers guide to barbecues (BBQs)
We have one of the largest selections of barbecues in north west England in our Barbecue Shop and are host to one of only a handful of Weber World stores in the UK. Unlike many other outlets our Barbecue Shop is open all year round so the ideal one-stop shop for presents if you have a keen barbecuer in the family. We stock all the barbecue accessories you could need including masses of rubs and sauces to elevate your grilling to the next level. Our most popular barbecues and grills are Weber and Traeger which are the very best quality on the market. The Traeger wood pellet grills are extremely easy to operate and aim to take a lot of the quesswork out of cooking with their WiFire technology and temperature probes; just insert the probes into the meat and your smartphone will receive an alert when it is almost ready. Our head BBQ buyer Ian Hodgett is a passionate barbecuer, utilising his grill all year round, click here to go to our Youtube channel where you will find masses of videos featuring Ian and top BBQ chef Richard Holden. The videos cover dozens of recipes and helpful hints and tips to enable you to get the best out of your grill.
How much to pay for a barbecue depends upon whether you are a newbie or an experienced griller. If you are new to barbecuing and not sure if you will want to get a lot of use out of your BBQ start with a small grill to suit your immediate needs. Once you get the hang of barbecuing and think you might want to start entertaining family and friends then you can upgrade to a much larger grill. The one thing that you must look out for is the quality as a better grade BBQ will way outlast a budget grill. Although you may not be using a small grill for very long before you upgrade to a larger one, still opt for quality as you will probably still need to use both BBQs when you are entertaining.
The size of BBQ you go for will depend entirely on how many people you are going to be cooking for; if you never entertain and are a couple living in an apartment then you just need a small electric grill, such as one from the Weber Pulse range. The larger grills which have multiple burners will cook for a small number of people just as effectively as a big party just by not turning on all the burners. One tip is to go for a larger barbecue than you think you are going to need as once you become more confident and try more adventurous dishes you will find that you cook more than just a few burgers and bangers. Once you get really confident try cooking the Christmas dinner on the BBQ; click here to see how Ian and Richard cooked it on the Traeger.
The choice of fuel can be a bit bewildering; wood pellets, charcoal briquettes, gas or electric? If you live in an apartment then the choice is made for you as most premises ban the use of live fire so you will have to plump for one on the Weber Pulse electric grills. Gas is the easiest and cleanest fuel but usually frowned upon by the BBQ purists who think that you don’t get the true authentic flavour, but this can be rectified by using flavoured chips in a smoker. There is a large number of charcoal grills so if you love the authentic barbecue experience these grills are the ones for you. The portable grills which you can take on a picnic or to the beach tend to be charcoal but there are gas powered models available. One of our biggest sellers are the Traeger wood pellet grills as they combine the authentic BBQ smoke with the ease of technology. If you are unsure which grill you would like please contact our Barbecue Shop and book an appointment stating which grill you would like to try before you buy and we will have it ready for you to test drive; just bring the burgers or bangers. Experienced staff will be on hand to assist and answer any queries you may have.
Maintenance is fairly standard across the ranges; they all need the grates scrubbing with a wire brush after every cook. A thorough clean once a year is recommended with all parts removed and cleaned with a dedicated BBQ cleaner or replaced if worn. (Contact our Barbecue Shop if you require spare parts) We do offer a Weber certified service on all their products where we pick up your BBQ, give it a service, replace any worn parts if necessary and return it to you in pristine condition.
