Daughter of a farmer and market gardener so have always had a connection with the outdoors, whether it was keeping animals or producing fruit, vegetables and cut flowers. Along with my work at Hayes Garden World I also have a smallholding, mainly breeding rare breed pigs. I gained an HND and BSc in Conservation and Environmental Land Management, as a result I am an ardent environmentalist and have a keen interest in environmentally friendly gardening. In my time at Hayes I worked for several years in the Outdoor Plant and Houseplant areas

Who can enter the competition?

Primary school children in the UK under the age of 11.

What is the prize?

There are three prizes to the value of £1,000, £750 and £500. Click here to see the list of suggestons on which to spend the prize money. The winning designs will feature on a packet of Thompson and Morgan sunflowers, to be sold in the store and online.

What do we have to do?

Design a sunflower seed packet using the template provided.

What’s the first step?

Register for a class/school.

Register as an individual.

What if my school doesn’t want to take part?

Entries are closed

Then what?

We will send the school individually numbered entry forms in the post. If there is just one child, download the entry form as for the answer above.

Can we enter if we are outside the UK?

No, sorry.

What do we create the design with?

It must be 2D so no bits glued or stapled on. Create in watercolour, felt pen, crayon, pastels or pencil.

Can I put a photograph in?

No, the artwork has to be all done by hand, so no digital images either.

Can I send in more than one entry?

No, just one entry per child.

Can the class send in a group entry?

No, entries must be done by only one child.

What do we do when we have done the pictures?

Scan them into individual PDF files, not all in one file, then upload them onto our website by clicking here.

When is the closing date?

All entries must be received by 5pm on Friday 17th July 2015.

Who is judging the pictures?

Hayes Garden World customers who come into the store, so if you want to vote for your school come into the store between 27th July and 9th August 2015.

Will the child’s name be on the pictures in store?

Yes, along with the age and the school.

Can I vote online?

No, only customers who come into the store.

When will we know if we have won?

As soon as possible after the voting has closed.
