Preston Fir Artificial Tree

Opt for the Preston Fir if you want a life-like Christmas tree

If you want the look of a real tree without the cost of buying one of the Next Generation trees which feature ‘Memory Wire’ then this Preston Fir artificial tree from The National Tree Company would be ideal. The mid-green branches have that natural randomness about them, rather than the typical artificial tree straight-sided, pyramid shape. They come in heights from 150cm (5’) to 240cm (8’), and in slim versions, so there is one to accommodate any sized room. The slim trees are particularly useful if you are a bit tight for space or want a second tree to light up a dark corner.

The tree is really easy to assemble, just take out the stand and form it into an X, next take out the bottom portion, usually the largest and heaviest and place it into the stand, tighten the screws in the stand. Make sure the branches have all fallen down and start dressing out the branches, beginning nearest to the pole. Pull out the branches to different angles to hide any gaps. Once you have dressed out all the branches insert the middle part of the tree and dress out as you have done for the bottom. Dress out the top section before inserting it into the middle part; it is so much easier than doing it on the tree, especially if it is one of the tall ones.

The branches are a mixture of polyethylene (PE) and PVC, with the PVC component being on the inside of the tree where it isn’t visible once the tree is decorated. The PE branches are moulded on casts taken from real trees and the PE has a soft feel. These trees are often marketed under the name of ‘Feel Real’. If you want to be able to tell whether or not a tree is good quality is to compare the number of tips; the more tips the thicker and bushier the tree. Nowadays quite a few retailers sell a tree with the same name but they are made by different manufacturers and are definitely not the same quality; so if a retailer is reluctant to tell you how many tips a tree has you can be sure that it is not good quality.

Our trees are delivered in a sturdy box which can be used to store the tree from year to year. We have a lot of comments that the plastic component of the tree has arrived broken, but there are no plastic parts on our trees. The only function of this piece of plastic is to cap the end of the metal tree pole to prevent it piercing the side of the box in transit and injuring any handlers. So if the plastic arrives broken it just means that it has done its job; it just needs to be thrown away as it is not a part of the tree.

The pre-lit trees can cut out all that frustration of untangling lights; however carefully you put them away they always emerge the following year as a rat’s nest. No matter what you do, putting lights onto a Christmas tree and taking them off again takes up a lot of time, which I’m sure you can spend better doing other things, such as enjoying a nice glass of something bubbly and a mince pie. The lights are warm white LEDs which should last about 50,000 hours. You get a pack of spares with the tree in case of breakages, but should you run out we will supply free replacements for the life of the tree; estimated to be about 15 years by The National Tree Company. If you have a problem with your lights just call the sales team who will be able to advise you what the remedy is; whatever you do don’t start disconnecting all the links within the tree as you’ll never get them back together in the correct order. Just click here to read the terms of our Christmas tree warranty.

There is a spare connection at the very top of the tree; this is where you attach the pre-lit tree topper. The tree toppers are only compatible with pre-lit trees from The National Tree Company.
