How To Cook Waffles With Blueberries, Maple Syrup, Bananas And Nutella In The Weber Gourmet Barbecue System Waffle Iron
Perk up breakfast with sweet or savoury waffles cooked on the BBQ
This short video shows you how to cook waffles on the BBQ. We used the Waffle Iron/Sandwich Maker accessory which is used with the Weber Gourmet Barbecue System (GBS), which can be used with both charcoal and gas. This system comes with a lot of accessories to elevate your cooking to a higher level; Dutch Oven for stews and casseroles, Wok for stir-fries and risottos, Griddle for pancakes and breakfast, Sear Grate for those lovely caramelisation marks or the Poultry Roaster for juicy, tasty birds. Several models in the Summit, Spirit and Genesis ranges come with this system as a standard feature; but it will also fit the larger Weber charcoal barbecues.
The temperature needs to be just right for making waffles; too hot and the butter and waffles will burn, too cool and they won’t brown. Butter the waffle maker first otherwise you won’t be able to get them out. They need cooking from 2 – 5 minutes each side, depending upon the temperature.
They can be served with a huge selection of toppings, either sweet or savoury. We have served them with blueberries, banana, Nutella and maple syrup, but adding ice-cream would have just been the finishing touch. Try them for breakfast with bacon, poached eggs and hollandaise sauce; bacon and maple syrup or scrambled eggs and smoked salmon with a touch of red fish roe. As a dessert the possibilities are endless, one of my favourites is strawberries marinated in Pimm's No 1 and caster sugar and served with English Lakes Double Jersey ice-cream; tropical pineapple, mango and passion fruit marinated in lime juice and caster sugar served with coconut sorbet or simply serve them with ice-cream and chocolate or fruit sauce.

- 115g (9oz) unsalted butter, melted
- 250g (9oz) plain flour
- 1teasp baking powder
- 1 tbsp caster sugar
- 3 eggs
- 425ml (15fl oz) milk
- 1 tsp salt
Combine all ingredients and beat until smooth, allow to stand for 30 minutes before cooking.
