A lot of properties nowadays ban the use of live fire on the premises so if you love a barbecue then the Weber Pulse is the one for you. We have trialled the Pulse alongside a gas and a charcoal BBQ and it came out really favourably, with barely any difference in flavour (click here to read the blog and watch the video). The Pulse can comfortably cook for 4 – 6 people so is the ideal choice for a couple living in an apartment. The Traeger range is classed under the Electric BBQ category as you need mains power for the ignition and the temperature controls; it does however cook your food using wood pellets for the authentic barbecue smokiness. Traeger grills are fast becoming a best seller as they are so simple to use, the temperature is easily controllable and the temperature probes alert your smartphone when the food is almost cooked. No more standing over the grill constantly turning over the food, just place the food on the grill, insert the probes then walk away and leave it to cook. If you have any queries regarding the BBQs just call our sales team here in the Internet department or the dedicated staff in The Barbecue Shop here in store at Ambleside. We regularly run BBQ courses and demos in the store so keep an eye on our Events page for details of the next workshop.

Buyers guide to electric barbecues

Electric barbecues are not the first thing which come to mind when choosing your grill as the traditional method of cooking outdoors is the use of real flames to give you the char and the classic smokiness. However, they do have their place especially if you live in a property which bans the use of live fire; you can still experience that al fresco dining experience. Click here to read the blog and watch the video where we cook burgers on gas, charcoal and electric grills and compare the results. The burgers cooked on the electric grill compare very favourably with those cooked on gas and charcoal. The video features The Barbecue Shop manager, Ian Hodgett, from the store here in Ambleside and top BBQ chef Richard Holden. Click here to view all our barbecue videos on Youtube which give you hints and tips on getting the best performance from your grill and a huge number of recipes, not just the standard barbecue fare but also some which you may be surprised to learn can be cooked on your grill. All our barbecues are sourced by Ian who has spent his working life at Hayes so is well aware of the standards our customers require. They are all from the very best manufacturers in the BBQ world and Ian has several of the grills himself which he uses on a regular basis throughout the year, even cooking the Christmas turkey outdoors to free up space in the kitchen oven. Click here to read the blog and watch the video showing how to cook the Christmas turkey on the Traeger wood pellet grill. If you like to entertain large parties then these grills are probably not suitable as the small grill area is their one disadvantage; it’s only suitable for a maximum of 4 people. The Traeger grills can also be classed as being electric as they need a power source to start the ignition and run the on-board WiFire system. This allows you to monitor the cook from your smartphone, just insert the probes into the meat, set the appropriate programme and the grill will send alerts to your phone when the cook is almost up to temperature. The electric grills all carry at least a 3 year warranty with Weber grills guaranteed for 10 years so you can be confident that you can grill without problem for many years. If you are unsure whether an electric grill is for you why not book a test drive with the team in The Barbecue Shop in store; they will fire up the grill, all you have to do is bring the burgers. They will be on hand to answer any queries and give you tips on how to get the most out of the grill. We regularly hold demos and hands-on workshops in store so please keep an eye on the Events page to book your next course. Click here for lots of BBQ recipe ideas, not just the standard barbecue fare but also some dishes you never thought would be possible to cook on the grill. The Barbecue Shop is open all year round so if you are stuck for gift ideas for the barbecuer in your life why not pop along, we're sure to have something to suit, even if it's only a couple of tubs of rub or sauce. We sell Angus & Oink rubs and sauces online but have many more in store.

FAQ

How many people can the electric grills cook for?
The purely electric grills can only cook for a maximum of 4 people but the Traeger wood pellet grills which have an electric ignition can easily cater for a large party, up to 12 -15 people.
What are the disadvantages of the electric BBQs?

The Weber Pulse range and the OutdoorChef only have a small grill area so are really only suitable for cooking for a maximum of 4 people. If you are allowed a grill which features live fire then the Treager is a much better option as it can easily cook for 12 - 15 people. BBQ purists argue that an electric grill does not give you that authentic smoky barbecue taste however the results are still pretty delicious.
